Counselling - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if counselling is going to help me?

Counselling offers you an opportunity to talk to someone completely independent of your situation; someone who is not going to judge you, tell you what to do, or dismiss how you are feeling. Counselling provides a focussed space just for you, to unload everything that you are holding in, and have someone accompany you while you process your experience. People of all ages and walks of life can find counselling beneficial, feeling lighter and supported in their journey to self-understanding. Whatever challenge you are facing, counselling can help you feel less alone.

What if I struggle to talk about my emotions or open up?

If you need to go at a slow pace and take your time, that's completely okay. It is my job as a therapist to make sure you feel safe, and there is no pressure to share anything before you are ready. I will take your lead in the session, I will not pry and we will go where you wish to go at a pace you feel comfortable with.

What if I am not really into holistic healing, and just want counselling?

Everyone is different and has their own preferences - if holistic techniques are not your thing, don't worry - we can still work together! My practice is rooted in person-centred therapy, which puts you at the heart of your process, and I am dedicated to providing a space that works for you. Holistic techniques are a tool but are by no means mandatory, and counselling can be just as effective as a pure talking modality.

How long does counselling last for?

Each of our therapy sessions will typically run for 50 minutes, and we meet every week unless you specify otherwise. There is no need to commit to a fixed amount of sessions upfront, and there is no limit to how many sessions you can come for. Some people come for just a few sessions, and some stay in therapy longer, so your sessions will be guided by your needs. We can discuss your goals for your therapy in your initial session, and we will review as we go along.

How can I book a counselling session?

You can book an introductory session online here or contact me to find out more, ask me a question or book a session offline.

How much does a counselling session cost?

Sessions are priced at £55 for a clinical hour (50 minutes).

What is the introductory session for?

This session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, discuss your reasons for seeking counselling and what your goals and expectations are for your therapy. I can answer any questions you may have about how counselling works and what to expect from the process. It is also a good opportunity for us to establish whether we would be a good fit to work together.

Will my sessions be confidential?

In order for you to feel safe and assured in your therapy, our sessions are treated with the utmost confidence, which means everything we speak about in the sessions is kept strictly between us and not shared with anyone else. All information is held securely and compliant to GDPR guidelines and I am ICO registered. There are specific ethical exemptions to confidentiality, but these are uncommon and will be discussed in your introductory session.

Am I able to switch my counselling format if I need to (between in-person, online, telephone,  and walk and talk)?

Yes, your counselling sessions are flexible and intended to meet your needs, so if a different format suits you better from week to week I will do my best to accommodate this.

How will I know if Indigo Holistics is right for me?

Finding a therapist you can trust to listen and hold space for you is crucial, and I am fully supportive in your journey. Our introductory session is a good opportunity to assess our compatibility and determine if you would like to go ahead and work together. My dedication to your wellbeing is such that, if at any point you feel our sessions are not the right match for you, I will assist you with finding a more suitable therapist to meet your needs.
