Tap it Out - feel better instantly, with Emotional Freedom Technique

There is much mystery around Emotional Freedom Technique... or 'EFT' as it is often shortened to. The EFT technique was developed by American engineer Gary Craig (yes, an engineer!) and is a wonderful holistic treatment which can be taught to the client for them to self-administer whenever needed. Read on to find out more about how EFT works...

☯ What is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)?

EFT is a non-invasive therapy which involves the use of tapping on various meridian points on the body, to relieve physical pain or emotional distress. The tapping is used in combination with talking therapy to identify and work through any areas of unease. The methods are taught over a series of sessions which then enables the client to use the technique to treat themselves.

☯ How does EFT work?

EFT works on the same theoretical basis which supports Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. It is believed that energy is delivered around the body along channels termed 'meridians', and that often energy can become blocked by emotional upset, physical injury, or other disruption to the balance of the body (such as poor diet, lack of sleep etc). This can then manifest in physical conditions such as headaches, stiffness or other pain, or as emotional symptoms such as low mood, anxiety or mood swings.

In modern biology, we can link the idea of meridians with other channels in the body, such as nerves, lymph vessels and blood vessels, however meridians are thought to be much more subtle and linked to a subtle energy as opposed to physical anatomy. Meridians pass through many areas of the body and are linked to specific organs and physiological processes.

The tapping is delivered to the endpoints of the meridians at specific locations on the body. These taps then send a 'reset' signal along the meridian, which unblocks any stuck energy. Clients generally experience relief after just a few rounds of tapping, although some can experience relief almost instantaneously.

☯ What can EFT treat?

Because EFT works as an energy reset technique for the body, it is a genuine all-rounder, and it can treat pretty much anything! Some examples are:

🙗 Headaches / Migraines

🙗 Generalised Pain or Stiffness

🙗 Pre-Menstrual Tension

🙗 Anxiety

🙗 Addictive behaviours

… but the list is endless.

What is also interesting, is that because it works to clear and reset the energy through the entire body, clients often experience a host of other side benefits, as it treats the body in an holistic way.

☯ What does an EFT Treatment look like?

EFT treatments from Indigo Holistics are delivered over a series of three sessions, each lasting an hour. This is to enable enough time for the client to become familiar with the technique and the process, in order that they will be able to use the technique on themselves.

The first session involves an assessment of the clients needs, and an explanation of the process so that the client can determine if this is the right treatment for them.

The client is invited to share what brings them to the session and what they would like to work on (e.g. a consistent pain, an emotional upset or addictive behaviour). The client is then taken through the process of preparing their body to receive a treatment, which involves different techniques of bringing balance into the body. The client is introduced to specific statements and affirmations which will assist in their treatment. The client is then treated by the practitioner in the first instance (where the session is in-person), and then over time the client is invited to follow the practitioner in the treatment, before finally being able to administer the technique on their own. Tapping is administered over clothing using the fingertips.

The treatment involves an element of talking therapy in order to identify and work through what it is the client would like to address. Often the root cause of the issue can take some delving to find, and experimentation with different affirmations may be required. It is important to note that, because this in an holistic treatment, the client may experience an emotional response, or other additional sensations that may appear unrelated to the initial concern. However, this is a normal part of the healing process, and the client can be assured that they will be fully supported by the practitioner throughout.

Sessions from Indigo Holistics can be delivered in-person or online, however the first session is recommended to be in-person where possible. Sessions can also be delivered to groups where appropriate, however an in-person assessment with each individual participant is required in the first instance.
